Welcome to Aiko’s kitchen.

Before you buy another box,
try the cupboard you have.

If you have to move three things to reach a saucepan, another storage box may not help. Start by looking at what gets in your way, then try a different arrangement.

Try it on one shelf

Choose the shelf that interrupts you most often. You can leave the rest of the kitchen for another day.

See what’s there

Bring the contents of one shelf into view. Check the back for things you’ve forgotten about or bought twice.

Make it easier to use

Match each lid to its container, then put the things you use together within easy reach.

Keep what works

Try making tea or reaching for your usual saucepan. If you still have to move things out of the way, adjust the arrangement.

From our little house to yours

Come into our kitchen

I’m Aiko Mori. Here, Kenji and I share simple ways to make everyday life cost less and feel a little easier.

A crowded shelf or a loose button gives us somewhere to start. We work through what to do next and share Japanese-inspired habits you can adapt to your own home.

You’ll find ideas for cooking with what’s on hand, mending clothes and caring for belongings. Kenji also shares ways to grow food in small spaces.

You’re welcome here.
